Mixed-mode Surveys

Mixed-mode surveys combine multiple methods or modes of data collection in a single study. That is, instead of relying on a single mode, such as paper-based surveys or face-to-face interviews, researchers use a combination of different modes to collect data from participants. For example, a mixed-mode survey may involve using paper questionnaires alongside online surveys or conducting phone interviews alongside in-person interviews. The specific combination of modes adopted by a researcher can vary depending on the research objectives, target population, and available resources. The purpose of using a mixed-mode survey is to overcome limitations associated with a single mode and enhance data collection effectiveness. Mixed-mode surveys allow researchers to reach a broader range of participants.

Nigerians living abroad are often referred to as people in the diaspora or diasporans. In the diaspora, they learn new things, mix with other cultures, and adopt new ways of doing things. A transnational entrepreneur is a diasporan who lives in one country but does business in locations beyond where they live. Many do business between the country where they live and their home country. In many developing countries like Nigeria, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) operate in a challenging business environment. Many people believe that diasporans can make a difference as part of an entrepreneurial ecosystem, a network of people, institutions, and organisations that support entrepreneurship.

We are embedded in systems, and they are made of dynamic, interacting parts where new patterns emerge unpredictably. Outcomes are nonlinear, emergent, and adaptive. Recently, I was speaking to a group who asked me two specific questions, and I have been mulling over them for days now and decided to write this extended post, building on the talk. The first question was to share the path that led me to where I am and how I first encountered them as a group. With limited time allotted, I decided to speak the language they would understand.

Empathy is a skill that gives one the ability to understand the feelings, circumstances, intentions, thoughts, and needs of others, and to consider them when making decisions. It is the ability to understand other people and solve problems from their perspective. This article looks at empathy as a business skill and tool in various aspects of business and explores ways to practise empathy in business.

Fostering bottom-up entrepreneurship in embryonic ecosystems: Insights from smallholders

In embryonic entrepreneurial ecosystems, support policy frameworks seek to revitalize rural communities, alleviate poverty, transform key sectors of the economy and develop local businesses by increasing access to finance among others. However, policy frameworks rarely foster vertical connections across ecosystems particularly from the bottom-up.

Positioning Diasporans as Change Agents in the SME Sector

Becoming from within: Understanding the emergence and embeddedness of inclusive agribusiness entrepreneurs

To address this oversight, we explore the phenomenon of inclusive agribusiness (IAB) entrepreneurs who adopt sustainable agricultural practices to drive poverty alleviation in low-income rural areas.
