UIL-MKT 106: The Nigerian Marketing System & Commercial Policy (2 Units C: LH 30)
Course Description: This course examines the traditional Nigerian marketing system and explains the concept of a marketing system and how it operates. It covers the meaning and relationship between itinerant, retail, and wholesale trade, as well as the basic concepts of distribution channels. Students will learn the factors to consider when selecting distribution channels, the policies and functions of distribution systems, and the various government regulations that guide commercial activities. The course also highlights the roles of regulatory agencies such as the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), and the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) in ensuring fair and efficient marketing practices.
MKT 220: Food & Agricultural Marketing (2 Units C: LH 30)
Course Description: Agricultural marketing covers the services involved in moving an agricultural produce from the farm to the consumer. These services involve the planning, organizing, directing as well as the application of marketing tools in the handling of agricultural produce in such a way as to satisfy farmers, intermediaries and consumers.
MKT 402: Marketing Management (2 Units C: LH 30)
Course Description: This course focuses on the application of fundamental management principles to marketing activities and decision-making. It examines the organization, planning, control, coordination, and integration of marketing functions within an enterprise. The course explores the elements of the marketing mix, including product development, pricing, promotion, and physical distribution, and their roles in achieving organizational objectives. It also discusses the relationship between marketing and social responsibility, emphasizing ethical business practices, consumer welfare, and the growing importance of consumerism in modern marketing environments.

MKT 121: Marketing of Financial Services (2 Units C: LH 30)
Course Description:This course examines the structure and component parts of the financial sector, with emphasis on the nature, scope, and importance of marketing in financial services. It explores the factors that influence the marketing of financial services in Nigeria and the application of marketing mix elements in meeting customer needs. The course also highlights the growing role of digital technologies in financial services marketing and their impact on customer engagement and service delivery. Students will study the nature of banking services, customer satisfaction strategies, insurance product lines, and the marketing of pension services. The course equips learners with the knowledge and skills required to effectively market financial products and services in a dynamic and competitive environment.
MKT 211: Principles Of Marketing Management (2 Units C: LH 30)
Course Description: This course introduces students to contemporary marketing management concepts and practices, beginning with the Iceberg Model of Marketing Activities and Processes as a framework for understanding visible and underlying marketing functions. It examines the marketing management process, including market analysis, environmental scanning, and the identification of market opportunities. The course focuses on the selection of target markets and the development of effective marketing strategies to achieve organizational objectives. Students will explore the strategic marketing management process in practice, with emphasis on planning, implementation, and evaluation. The course also covers social marketing, marketing ethics, and consumerism, highlighting the importance of responsible marketing practices and consumer protection in today’s dynamic business environment.
MKT 401: Political Marketing (2 Units C: LH 30)
Course Description: This course introduces students to the principles and practice of political marketing within democratic systems. It examines the concept of liberal democracy, the elements of multi-party democracy, and the evolution of marketing from commercial applications to political contexts. The course explores the meaning, objectives, and significance of political marketing, emphasizing the application of traditional marketing concepts to political campaigns and voter engagement. Students will analyze the similarities and differences between political marketing and mainstream marketing, while examining key elements such as political goals, political markets, political products, and marketing tools. The course also focuses on the development of effective political communication strategies, including the use of various media channels and campaign approaches to inform, persuade, and mobilize voters in contemporary democratic environments.
